Drowning Prevention Champion Celebrates 10 years as CEO
Today we extend congratulations to Carl Shier on the celebration of his 10th anniversary as Chief Executive Officer of the Lifesaving Society – Manitoba Branch. From the day Carl assumed his role at the Lifesaving Society he has been a champion for drowning prevention; creating, growing and promoting programming that has dramatically reduced Manitoba’s water-related injuries and deaths. Carl has worked tirelessly to ensure drowning and water-related injuries are a public health and safety issue for every level of government, and he is passionate about increasing awareness of the drowning problem amongst all Manitobans. These efforts have recently garnered accolades from Dr. Steve Beerman, former President of both the International Lifesaving Federation and the Royal Life Saving Society Canada.
Under Carl’s leadership the Lifesaving Society – Manitoba Branch has made great strides in its ability to service more areas of the province. Three of the initiatives that he has been involved with deserve special recognition: the Northern Water Smart Program, the PFD Loaner Program and the Manitoba Coalition for Safer Waters. Carl’s ability to identify communities with the highest risk of drowning-related incidents, combined with his skill in directing resources, equipment, and personnel to where they are most needed, has been noted by many organizations involved in injury prevention across the country. The influence and impact of all of Carl’s initiatives on the reduced rate of drowning in Manitoba cannot be understated.
Please join us in congratulating Carl for his years of service and his extraordinary contributions to drowning and water related injury prevention in Manitoba.
Sincerely,
Members of the Board and Branch Staff
