Public Education Commissioner-Elect
The Lifesaving Society Canada is currently seeking a volunteer to assist in leading the Public Education activity centre and projects as per the Lifesaving Society Canada (the ‘Society’ or ‘LSC’) strategic plan.
Working with the Public Education Commissioner, the Commissioner-Elect will perform duties as outlined in the Public Education Terms of Reference and Public Education Commissioner Job Description. The successful applicant will fill the role of Public Education Commissioner-Elect for one year, Public Education Commissioner for two years and Past-Commissioner for one year (totaling 4 years).
The Lifesaving Society Canada’s Public Education Commission contributes to the mission of the Society by providing targeted education that results in behavioural change aimed at the prevention of drowning and water-related injuries. At this time, the Public Education Commission has four areas of focus to help achieve this mandate:
- Develop standardized public education messages for target audiences based on drowning research. As part of Vision 2030, seasonal messages need to take on a behavioural change approach and will include to development of an Ice Safety Day.
- Develop the messages and materials for the annual National Drowning Prevention Week (NDPW) campaign. As part of Vision 2030, the NDPW campaigns will work towards incorporating a public health approach to water safety and focusing on the need for community outreach & partnerships.
- Provide stewardship to and advocacy of the Swim to Survive Standard and program.
- Ensure all messages include equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
