Carl Shier – Remembered

Carl served as CEO from 2004 to 2017. During that time, he worked passionately and enthusiastically in drowning prevention largely by forging strong partnerships.

Whether through his role as Chair of the Manitoba Coalition for Safer Waters, or at pool side at the Manitoba Lifeguard Championships, Carl brought out the best in those around him through his leadership, encouragement, knowledge, and friendship.

Carl was proud of the Lifesaving Society and its work in drowning prevention. Even in retirement, he flew the blue Society flag at the family cottage at Falcon Lake to remind others of the importance of water safety.

Lifesaving Society Manitoba extends deepest sympathies to his wife Terry, his daughters Christine and Shelley and their families.
